Lido Venice is one of the most favorite islands of the Venice lagoon among Venetians for many reasons. First of all because It is the closest access that Venetians have to the Adriatic Sea, and therefore during summer time the beaches there become very crowded. Second of all because it is a very charming island, that opens to the international jet-set during the Venice International Film Festival. The Lido in Venice has been a favorite spot among such cultural legends as Corto Maltese and Thomas Mann, to mention only a couple. There are many wonderful activities, sites, and things to do on Lido. Let’s discover together with our local tips on best places to visit when you are in Lido Venice.

Where to eat
Eat at Lido di Venezia like a local: for a typical Venetian meal, both lunch and dinner, you can enjoy the small and cozy restaurant Da Cri Cri e Tendina (on Via San Gallo 159-a). They are open for lunch every day and for dinner only during the weekends, moreover there isn’t a menu: the waiter will explain to guests each day what delicious fresh fish is on the menu.
For a quick bite instead we recommend that you try the sandwiches of El Pecador (on Lungomare G. D’Annunzio), a bar that is set in a double decker bus from 1960s-era London.
If you are going a little bit further, in the small town of Malamocco, we strongly recommend you try Trattoria Da Scarso (Piazzale Malamocco 5, tel. 041770834): one of the favorite spots to eat among our Prontopia locals in Venice for quality and location. For an evening aperitivo, we recommend to order a spritz and a fried baccalà at the Osteria al Mercà (Via E. Dandolo 17B, tel. 0412431663), set just on the old fishmarket of the Lido island.

What to Do
Lido is enjoyable both in summer and in winter, but of course the activities might be different!
If you are here during summer, we recommend you rent a bike at Lido On Bike and ride to the little town of Malamocco, which is definitely a small hidden gem. If you are a fan of Corto Maltese you will immediately recognize this place as one of his favorites (together with Osteria da Scarso!). You can later have a swim in the sea in the nearby Murazzi area. If you are arriving from the end of August till the first week ofSseptember you will catch the Venice International Film Festival and find all the international stars and VIPs passing the red carpet at the Palazzo del Cinema.
During winter you can also enjoy the quietness Lido can provide, having a stroll along the Gran Viale and looking at the belle epoque palaces that are here, imagining Thomas Mann was here during the writing of his novel Death in Venice, which is set in large part in Lido.
Where to stay
If you want to feel like a star or a VIP, you can indulge in a night like a king or queen staying at the 5-star Hotel Excelsior Venice, legendary place of the stars from the 1950s onward. For a similar decadent feeling you can also choose between the 4-star Albergo Ausonia & Hungaria or the Grand Hotel Des Bains. For something more affordable but comfortable go to Hotel La Pergola di Venezia.
